My husband, David and I are working at becoming more self-sustaining, supportive of local organic farmers and as non-gmo-ed and organic as possible. We have raised chickens and ducks for eggs for over ten years. A few years back, we started buying a quarter beef every fall from some friends and meat chickens from other friends. We have just discovered a local farmer that sells Herdshares for raw milk :) For years I have cooked and baked from scratch, and preserved our own garden veggies. I use honey and maple sugar as a sweetener and an ancient grain (Einkorn) for bread. In addition to all of that, we keep bees, make our own soaps, wine, vinegar and now will be making homemade cheese, buttermilk, yogurt and butter :) :) :)
